Don’t Forfeit Your Promise

Have you ever been to a sporting event, and when it gets down to the last portion of the game, the crowd starts leaving? There’s not much time left, but the scoreboard is pretty much set, and it looks like we know which team is winning. People start trickling out, and then floods of people leave in rows and sections because they see others leaving, and everyone generally has this thought, “I want to beat traffic.” And in the middle of that, you’ll find people stopping and staring at the field or court as they leave, trying to catch one more glimpse of the game. Because we always look back just in case, in hope we catch something that could change the trajectory of the game. That’s how many of us are in these final months of the year. Packing up and leaving early, venturing into traffic, because we see the game (the year) as over. We’ve looked at the outcome of January through November and have determined that with the limited time left on the scoreboard, our outcome is set. Knowingly or not, we have chosen to forfeit promises for the remainder of the year.

Many of us have checked out mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. The burnout and fatigue have caught up to us, and we’re wrestling with weariness. But not showing up and giving up, even mentally, is a choice to defer God’s best for you. God doesn’t follow the world’s games or timing. What we see as time running out, God sees as there’s still time left. Don’t discount yourself because of what you see. If God says you still have time, believe Him. Keep believing that the trajectory of the year can turn, the same way you hope that your favorite team will make a comeback towards the end of the game. What does that look like practically? When you see something contrary to what God has told or shown you, declare what He’s said concerning you and your life. Give God space to do what He does best, exceeding your expectations and fulfilling His promises.

God is a faithful Father, and He desires to give us good things. Don’t forfeit the promise He gave you based on what you see and feel. Be patient, hopeful, and curious enough to stay around until the final buzzer. The traffic will always be there anyway.

Latrice
