Healing is a crucial part of living a healthy and purpose-filled life. And this journey towards self-discovery and healing is transformative and can cause disruptions in every aspect of your life – from your own identity to your relationships with others and even your connection with God. Choosing to heal is a conscious decision and a commitment that many don’t weigh the cost of. After reflecting on my journey to healing, I created a list of 5 lessons that I’ve learned that could give insight and encourage you along the way!
1. The Tension Within…
Choosing to heal is making the conscious decision to walk in tension. Embarking on the healing journey initiates a tension within oneself. It’s a process of understanding who you are and why you’ve become the person you are today. And this brings tension to your relationships with family, friends, coworkers, yourself, and even your spiritual connection with God.
2. Somedays You’ll only have Questions
In the early stages, you may find yourself with more questions than answers. The most common inquiry being, “Why God?” The healing journey challenges your beliefs and perceptions, leading to a shift in the type of questions you ask. You can recognize personal growth when your questioning shifts to yourself rather than others.
3. Healing is Continuous and Endless
Healing is not a destination; it’s not linear; it’s a continuous and ongoing journey. There is no finish line, and life is not as cyclical as we often believe. Every experience, every challenge, presents an opportunity to learn and heal.
4. Healing Can be Lonely
Expecting support from everyone on your healing journey is unrealistic. It can be a lonely path because not everyone will understand your choices or stand beside you as you make them. Some can’t comprehend the choices you make, and that’s okay. The journey is yours alone, and not everyone can come along.
5. Healing is Rewarding!
Despite the challenges, the healing journey is incredibly rewarding. It empowers you to become an advocate for yourself and helps you understand your patterns, needs, and wants. It’s also an opportunity to partner with God in your rebuilding and reintroduction to yourself.
All in all, healing may be painful, lonely, and challenging, but the rewards are immeasurable! Learning to advocate for yourself, understanding your journey, and working with God are all aspects that make the healing journey worthwhile. As you navigate this path, remember that it’s okay not to have all the answers, and it’s okay if not everyone understands. Stay encouraged on your healing journey as you become the best version of yourself!

Latrice
